Doula is an ancient Greek word used to identify a "women caregiver" or "woman who serves". Throughout history, other terms like labor support, labor companion, and childbirth assistant have been used to describe the role of a doula. A doula is trained to provide women non-medical support such as psychological encouragement, hands-on support measures, visualization, evidence-based research, and massage, before, during, and after childbirth. Your unique birthing experience is enhanced by a doula's non-judgemental presence of support.
WHAT IS A DOULA?
I offer one 30-minute phone/video call -or- meet-in-greet, for us to access our compatibility. We will then meet for a total of two prenatal sessions and one postpartum visit. Two weeks prior to your due date, I will be on-call 24 hours a day.
The purpose of prenatal visits is for us to become acquainted and comfortable with each other, so that you (and your partner) feel fully supported and informed. We will gather information about your birthing preferences, fears and concerns, review your wishes and desires for birth and postpartum, and dive into the emotional, physical, and educational role of a birth doula.
I offer a discount for my birth doula services if you attend a childbirth education series out of hospital, by 38 weeks gestation.
